Superb vintage Escaramuza Charra blue dress, circa the 1960s. This phenomenal handmade dress features hand-sewn lace throughout with a feature v-shaped overlay drop on the upper bodice. You’ll find a long lace belt attached to the dress at the front and the long sleeves are beautifully gathered at the elbows. The tiers of lace are draped around the dress with blue ribbon laced through on the upper bodice and bottom panel.
The dress is very heavy in weight with a zipper and hook closure on the back.
This piece was made specifically for the Escaramuza, part of the Charreria equestrian competition in Mexico where female riders, wearing traditional clothing, perform choreography on horseback. Escaramuzas are inspired by the women of the Mexican Revolution called adelitas.
This Escaramuza Charra dress was sourced from a former member and president of the Charros de San Antonio which owns and operates the Charro Ranch on Padre near Mission San Jose.
Condition: Very Good, given its age and use. There may be slight areas of wear.
