Vintage 1960s Green Escaramuza Charra Dress
Remarkable vintage Escaramuza Charra dress, circa the 1960s. This beautifully handmade green dress is incredibly delicate and features hand-sewn lace in white, yellow, and red throughout. You’ll find a round neckline, tiered ruffles at the bottom of the dress, and sweet bell sleeves. The dress is lightweight and thin. There is a zipper closure in the back.
This piece was made specifically for the Escaramuza, part of the Charreria equestrian competition in Mexico where female riders, wearing traditional clothing, perform choreography on horseback. Escaramuzas are inspired by the women of the Mexican Revolution called adelitas.
This Escaramuza Charra dress was sourced from a former member and president of the Charros de San Antonio which owns and operates the Charro Ranch on Padre near Mission San Jose.
