Vintage Handmade Escaramuza Petticoat
Lovely vintage Escaramuza petticoat, circa the 1960s. This handmade piece features multiple layers of cloth and netting with a transparent waist-to-thigh design. This petticoat is typically worn under an Escaramuza dress to make it fuller. It is very sturdy (can sit up on its own) yet lightweight. Absolutely stunning.
This piece was made specifically for the Escaramuza, part of the Charreria equestrian competition in Mexico where female riders, wearing traditional clothing, perform choreography on horseback. Escaramuzas are inspired by the women of the Mexican Revolution called adelitas.
This Escaramuza Charra petticoat was sourced from a San Antonio collector who took part in and owned vintage Charro and Charreria clothing.
